The Girl

A girl runs off the hill, panting. Bewildered.

Her time was frozen and she lost track of it. She hasn't prepared anything, but in front of her were numbers of paths. Roads traversed. Guidance. Street signs. But she fears them. She doubts the future it brings, for she knows once she sets foot, her life will change forever. That first step, away from everything she knows, from everything she holds dear; she dares not take.

But time is ticking.

She's not alone. There are others as scared as she. Others, with the same frightened look in their eyes. But the decision to take one road is up to each other to make. For now, she grabs a hand of someone close. Firmly; tightly, they link their arms but she knows she can't forever cling on him. They have to part ways. He's, too, a part of something losing. He's too, might be swallowed in the whirl of time. Besides, there's something different in the way he looks.

He's scared, but unlike her, he doesn't hate the idea of deciding. He's eager to know where the road will take him. She hates him for that.

She hates him.

And she fears him.

But only the insecurity and ambition she feels when he's around that keeps her going. He's small-built, but he looks like a giant mountain to her eyes. It only scares her even more.

He takes the first step to another set of paths. Before she realizes, she's dragged along. Then, a light dawns on her. She's not clinging on him; he's pulling her. With those frightened yet determined eyes, he pulls her forward.

note: I've actually published it on my tumblr [findingmelati.tumblr.com] under the title "That Girl", but this story means so much to me that I can't help but to publish it here. There's no significance of the title, though. . . I'm just bad at titles and idk if there's more suitable title for this piece of writing.
